Deconstruction Coordinator

The Deconstruction Coordinator oversees the development, estimation, and delivery of deconstruction projects.

This position supervises labor on deconstruction projects and collaborates with donations and receiving staff. The position reports to the Assistant Director, Partnerships.

The position is a full-time, salaried position, 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturday and evening work may be required. The role is based at our facility in Roxbury Crossing.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership of business development and responsibility for closing deals. Walk sites and generate project estimates to present to clients. Steward client relationships to successfully close business.

  • Establish, maintain, and develop fruitful professional partnerships for BBR.

  • Develop and improve internal processes: estimating, project execution, and material inventory. Maintain all project files and documents on SharePoint.

  • Oversee all deconstruction site work. Ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner, that materials are harvested carefully, and that jobsites are left clean and organized.

  • Oversee billing cycle—from estimate to collection of final payment.

  • Collaborate with receiving coordinator to maintain internal calendars. Coordinate with truck crew to ensure safe, efficient, and careful transportation of donated materials.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • The ability to represent the organization with the highest standards.

  • Knowledge of the construction process and basic carpentry skills.

  • Interest in and knowledge of building materials and the products sold at the Reuse Center.

  • Excellent customer service skills. Interest and willingness to build customer relationships.

  • Desire and ability to learn new information and skills, team oriented, comfortable in a high change environment.

Other Requirements

  • Satisfactory background checks, CORI and SORI.

  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, and to move and handle heavy objects. Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform all functions as set forth above.

Education & Engagement Coordinator

The Education & Engagement Coordinator (EEC) will lead a comprehensive effort to develop the overall educational vision for the organization consistent with BBR’s strategic goals. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the EEC will create and ensure smooth delivery of all educational workshops and content; imagine, design, and deliver compelling in-person events to deepen constituent engagement and further the organization’s mission.

The position is a full-time, salaried position, 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturday and evening work may be required. The role is based at our facility in Roxbury Crossing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the growth of our successful workshop program to take our offering to the next level.

  • Develop and implement adult and youth long-format, in-person educational workshops related to basic homeownership skills and energy efficiency.

  • Own the P&L for our educational program. Refine the business model and balance access and mission with the realities of the need to generate revenue.

  • Manage our schedule of community engagement events, including two marquee events each year and quarterly events designed to engage specific groups.

  • Collaborate with the team to create new events to engage significant material donors and financial supporters.

  • Create events to attract a new audience to the Co-op.

  • Effectively manage volunteers to ensure smooth delivery of events and programs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of progressive experience in public programming, customer engagement, communications, marketing, education, or a related field.

  • Passion for fighting climate change in a tangible, hands-on way, addressing the affordable housing crisis, and empowering others through the reuse of materials and growing the circular economy.

  • Exceptional communications, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Experience managing others, both paid staff and volunteers.

  • Strong writing, photography, videography, and graphic design skills. Creative thinker with fresh ideas to present concepts to a variety of audiences. Demonstrated ability to attract and engage a community of diverse constituents.

  • Strong computer and technology skills. Comfort learning new technology tools quickly.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to work independently with limited direction.

  • Resourceful, creative thinker and problem solver. Self-starter who takes the initiative to deliver results.

Senior Kitchen Designer

Boston Building Resources (BBR), a consumer co-op established in 1978, sells new building materials to its members and the general public. Kitchens are a core line of business for BBR and over the years we have built a strong reputation for kitchen design with homeowners, architects, designers and contractors. We design and sell stylish, on-trend, functional kitchens and are committed to exceptional customer service.

We have a strong repeat and referrals business, the result of our customer-centric design process and strong attention to detail. As a consumer co-op, we are a source of honest, unbiased information, and are dedicated to empowering our members to make the most informed decisions possible. We provide education on product options, design advice, and work to guide our members through the process with care and attention to detail.

The Senior Kitchen Designer at Boston Building Resources will meet with customers (homeowners, architects, builders and designers) to assess needs, create designs and cost estimates, complete sales, place orders, and communicate with all stakeholders to successfully deliver projects. This is a full-time, exempt position. The role is based at our location in Roxbury Crossing. Occasional site visits as well as teaching workshops on kitchen design are required.

The position reports to the President of BBR and works closely with another kitchen designer and BBR staff to ensure all customer needs are met.

Essential Functions

  • Meet with customers (members) to understand their needs and budgets

  • Design kitchens on 20/20 software

  • Prepare drawings (floor plans, elevations and perspectives)

  • Price, sell and order cabinets, counters and related products

  • Become thoroughly familiar with all of BBR’s cabinet and countertop offerings and answer customer questions about the products

  • Arrange deliveries and collect payments for cabinet and counter orders.

  • Assist with maintaining cabinet displays and samples

  • Coordinate between customers and vendors, including creating and maintaining details and drawings specific for each job

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Proficiency with 20/20 design software, Microsoft Office Suite, and general computing skills

  • Anticipate installation details and potential problems in the design phase

  • Understand residential construction techniques, building materials and construction drawings, including knowledge of cabinet construction, appliance specifications, and plumbing & electrical components of kitchens

  • Experience noting details on drawings calling attention to important details for the installer.

  • Precision in pricing and ordering

  • Willingness to ask questions

  • Enthusiastic, service-oriented attitude, customer priority with a demonstrated history of reliability while working collaboratively as a team member.

  • Ability to effectively manage several tasks with poise

  • Four years (minimum) experience in kitchen design

  • Ability to work the occasional Saturday

  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

The Reuse Center takes in donations of good-quality used and surplus building materials and sells them at steeply discounted prices. Additional discounts are offered to those who meet income guidelines. Reusable materials are spared from the landfill and sold at prices everyone can afford.
